Police Forced Old Woman to Unbutton Clothes for Searching

On January 2^nd, 2003, Christian Aimei Zhao, 61, was arrested from her home in Huqiao Town, Xiayi County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province.

About 9:00 in that morning, she was doing some house chores at home while several policemen including Chuanling Xia from the County Public Security Department State Protection Team came in. The police arrested her under the charge of “privately believing in God is against the law”. They took her to the State Protection Team. Policeman Chuanling Xia forced the old woman to unbutton her clothes to let them search her body. And then the police interrogated her for the leaders and meeting attendees. Sister Zhao refused to tell them. Then Xia told her to hand in 300 RMB otherwise they would not let her go. About 5:00 in the afternoon, she was released after paying the fine.
