Two Evangelists Charged with “Spreading Superstitions and Illegally Giving out Flyers”
Jiping He, 50, from Zhenxing District, Dandong City, Liaoning Province, and Zhonghai Zhan, 22, from Pusamiao Town, Dogang City, Liaoning Province, were evangelists. At the night on January 29th, 2003, they went to share the gospel at Shumei Fan’s home in Sanjiazi Village, Majiadian Town, Donggang City. The town police came and arrested them.
When they arrived at the town police station, Policeman Lianchang Tian jumped onto Zhonghai Zhan, and slapped him very hard at his face for a while. Then the police body-searched them. Police Tian dragged Jiping He’s hair and pulled him into a room. The police pushed him down on the ground, took off his belt, folded it and whipped him all over. Then the associated chief Fengbin Zhang led several police use electric baton to beat him. Since his hands were cuffed, he could not get up for several times after being beaten down on the ground. The police then kicked his face and pulled him up at his hair. Many of his hairs were pulled off. Seeing that he really could not stand because of the beating, the police then took off his pants and made him sitting on the freezing ground. In the next room, Zhonghai Zhan was also beaten up. The police ran between the two rooms to torture them, forcing them to admit that they spread superstitions and there was no God. At last, because they did not confess, the police collected 3000 RMB from each of them under the charge of “spreading superstitions and illegally giving out flyers.” They were released the next afternoon.
