After 4 Days of Torture, Brother Hou Was Already Covered with Injuries and Could Not Walk

In the afternoon on January 2^nd, 2003, Junfeng Hou, an evangelist from Tangshancheng Town, Dandong City, Liaoning Province, was arrested because of his preaching activities. After being tortured for four days, he was detained for 30 days under the charge of “believing in cult”.

On that day, Junfeng Hou went to share the gospel at Qingying Wang’s home in Paoshouying Village, Hamotang Town, Yuanbao District, Dandong City. After receiving the report, the town police station Party Director Hongwei Wang led several policemen drive to the scene and arrested him. The police took him to the station, put him into a cage and then cuffed his hands to the top of the cage for more than 10 hours. In the next morning, the station chief Lianyi Mo led an interrogation. Holding a book that they found, Policeman Jun You shouted at him, “I am telling you. What you preach is against Zeming Jiang and the government. Say right now, where you got this stuff? Where is the God?” Brother Hou kept silent. The police got angry. One of them lifted up Hou’s clothes and covered his head, and then several others beat him up. Then they took off his pants and used his belt to whip his back and hip. Feeling not enough, then the police whipped him all around, till the belt broken. The police then used electric batons to shock him at his neck, back, armpits, and inner side of thighs. After being such tortured, Brother Hou could barely stand by himself. But the police continued torturing him. The police ordered him to hold difficult postures. Whenever he could not hold the position, the police would kick him down on the ground, and then stamp on his cuffed hands. Jun You kicked his legs violently while Chief Mo kicked his thighs, threatening to disable him. Such torture lasted for four days, by when Brother Hou was already unable to walk, the whole body covered with injuries, and ears bleeding. The police cuffed his hands up. Because his belt was broken, the pants dropped, and he had to bear the freezing cold. To the end, he did not tell the police what they wanted. Then the police escorted him to Dandong City Detention Center on the 5^th. He was detained there for 30 days under the charge of “preaching cult”. He was released on January 31^st.

After being released, his hands and arms still felt numb. He could not squat down, and his chest felt painful all the time.
