Someone Shouted “Beat Him to Death! Beat Him to Death!”

On February 22^nd, 2003, three Christians were arrested in Shilingzi Town, Lishu County, Jilin Province. They were beaten up. One was sentenced to one year in labor camp.

In that afternoon, Christians Xianying Wang, Zhanyou Huang and Fengge Liu were meeting together at Hongbang Zhao’s home in Shilingzi Town. Town policemen Xiaodong Zhao and another broke into the house and shouted, “We are from the police station. We want to investigate your religion activities.” After finding several spiritual books and other materials, the police dragged the Christians to their car by pulling their collars. They were sent to the town police station, where they were body-searched and interrogated. The next day, they were sent to the county public security department.

There they were brutally tortured. The police came to the cell and took Zhanyou Huang away. Shortly after, it was heard Brother Huang’s screaming, and someone shouted, “Beat him to death! Beat him to death!...” Brother Huang was completely disfigured when he came back. His arm skin was abraded off. Still, a policeman took a broom and struck them for more than 10 minutes.

In the afternoon, they were sent to the county detention center. They haven’t seen each other since then.

On March 14^th, Xianying Wang was sentenced to one year in labor camp. To let her serve the sentence outside the jail, her family was extorted by the police. After her family had spent 14000 RMB (~$1700), Sister Wang was released on March 16^th. The other two were still under custody.
