“The Government Has Already Declared You Private God-Believers as Cult and the Main Crackdown Target”

At the midnight on March 22^nd, 2003, Junman Yuan, from Xiawei Town, Yishui County, Zibo City, Shandong Province, was walking back from preaching. When he was walking on Yibo Road in Yiyuan County, more than ten policemen blocked him. The police took away his gospel materials and then beat him up. He was taken to the county police department.

The Political Protection Division Head Shulin Wu and Associate Head Dumin Li interrogated him. Wu intimidated, “The government has already declared you private God-believers as cult and the main crackdown target. Never let you go if falling in our hands!” Several police came up and knocked him down on the ground. Then they ripped off his clothes, shoes and socks, and cuffed his hands at back. Police Yang slapped on his face for several dozens, and whipped his legs for numerous times with a leather belt. Associate Head Li poured a cup of hot water onto his face… Such torture and interrogation lasted till 4:00 in the afternoon on 24^th. Then the police sent him to the county detention center under the charge of “cult”.

On April 23^rd, Yuan’s family pled through some connections, and paid 2200 RMB (~$300) fine (no receipt given). Then the police set him free.
