The Police Threatened “Don’t Tell About Being Beaten and Fined”

On May 30th, 2003, a group of police broke into Christian Xueying Li’s home in Dapeng Town, Tongshan County, Jiangsu Province. With the charge of “private believing in God”, the police ransacked the house. After seizing Li’s spiritual books, hymn CDs, a CD player and a 600 MRB cash check, they took her to the local police station.

To make her confess about the source of the books, Officer Li punched her face while grabbing her hairs. Policeman Gang Wang kicked her legs violently. Then he stamped on her feet. The interrogation lasted for more than 10 hours. Her body was covered with injuries and her mouth bled. Then the police detained her for 64 hours. After extorting 3000 RMB without receipt, the police set her free. Upon her leaving, the police threatened, “No more believing in God. Don’t tell about being beaten and fined. Otherwise, we will arrest you again!”
