The Husband Released but the Wife Charged with “Harboring Criminals”
At late night on May 3rd, 2003, Evangelists Haixuan Kang and Yinhong Li were preaching the gospel to Haichen Yan at Qian Lu’s home in Xiqibao Village, Qinghetou Town, Puyang County, Henan Province. The Village Party Secretary Chengjun Xu and Chief Qizen Yuan led a dozen people come in. Without any explanation, they took all the four to Qinghetou Town Police Station.
In the next morning, Kang, Li, and Yan were escorted to Puyang County State Protection Team. Haixuan Kang was sentenced on that day with criminal detention under the charge of “using cult organization to disrupt state law enforcement”.
In the afternoon, the town police station set Qian Lu free. But the police issued a subpoena to Lu’s wife Suying Liu, charging her 2000 RMB (~$250) fine because of “harboring criminals”. The police collected the money without giving them any receipt.
On May 5th, Yan was released. Nobody knows what happened to Li.
