Finally The Police Pierced a Needle Through Her Upper Lip
On February 23rd, 2003, four Christians were arrested and brutally tortured by police from Boli County, Heilongjiang Province. In the morning on that day, four policemen led by Weidong Sun from Chenxi Police Station drove two cars to Xiuying Chen’s home, and arrested Evangelist Dan Zheng who rent a room there. Then the police ambushed there and arrested one after the other three Christians coming to meet Dan Zheng. They were Qingshan Qi, Shengbin Man and Jiyan Cheng.
At the police station, Policemen Weidong Sun, Xin Shen and a fat officer surrounded Brother Qi. Without any word, Officer Sun grabbed Qi’s hair and pushed his head between Sun’s thighs. The other two officers then kicked him from the back with leather shoes. After a while, Sun released his hand and then slapped him on the face. He kicked him down on the ground. The three officers beat him for over half an hour. Then they searched his body, seizing 400 RMB (~$50), two beepers, two IC cards and a sheet of gospel flyer. The police then demanded for the source of the materials, the assembling places, his contacts, etc. Seeing Qi kept silent, the police then made him a torturing posture called “motorcycle-riding” – upper body bending forward, legs splitting and arms stretching forward. The fat police and Policeman Shen kicked him at his back for 50-60 kicks. After an hour, Police Sun took a chair and sat in front of Qi, saying, “I will see how long you can bear. I swear to make you confess!” Then with one hand holding Brother Qi’s right arm, his other hand lit a cigarette lighter and burned Qi’s palm… In such a way, they tortured Brother Qi for more than consecutive three hours and many times thereafter.
Around 4:00 in the afternoon, Sister Jiyan Cheng was dragged into a room and put onto a “tiger” chair, with two legs tightened, left hand tied to the chair’s low back, and right hand tied to upper chair back. Then the police pressed her right arm down, making her screamed out of pain. The fat policeman saw she did not confess, he slapped on her face for a while. Then another policeman came. He lifted her clothes and put his hand under the clothes. Starting from her breast and then beneath, the policeman pressed his fingers into between her ribs. This caused extreme pain and she felt her heart would jump out. Then another policeman came with a needle. He stuck the needle into her knee between the bones for seven to eight times. At last, while the needle was stuck in her knee, the police zigzagged it violently. Then he started to poke her arms with the needle. Finally, he pierced the needle through her upper lip. Her two legs were covered with bruise from the kicking.
Brother Shengbin Man was also beaten up. The fat policeman knocked his nose to bleed, and then grabbed his hair and smashed his head onto the wall. Policeman Sun pushed his head against the corner of a steel cabinet, and then forced him to make a posture of “airplane-driving”. Policeman Shen kicked him on his back for about 30-40 kicks. Such torture lasted for about one hour. The police took away from him two beepers, two IC cards, 140 RMB (~$18). He was beaten up two more times when he was sent to the detention center.
Dan Zheng was interrogated at 7:00 in the next morning lasted till 3:00 in the afternoon. His face was deformed from the torture.
Around 6:00 in the evening on 24th, the police sent them to the county North Jail. On March 10th, they were transferred to the county detention center.
Qingshan Qi was bailed out by his family at 4000 RMB (~$500). He was released at the midnight on March 10th. Jiyan Cheng was half death from the torture. At the same midnight, the police released her. Shengbin Man was detained for 48 days. On April 12th, his family bailed him out at 800 RMB (~$100). Since being transferred to the detention center, Dan Deng was assigned the cooking job. Someday, she escaped and nobody knows his whereabouts now.
Qingshan Qi, male, 29, lives in Qingshan Town, Boli County; Shengbin Man, male, 23, lives in Hongguang Town, Bayan County; Jiyan Cheng, female, 49, lives in Jixing Town, Boli County, and Dan Deng, female, 38, lived in Yingchengzi Town, Yitong County, Jilin Province. They were all the believers of “Life” house church.
